On the tape, the operator can be heard asking the woman if she has a mental problem and then asking that the husband who shot the woman be put on the phone. Rescuers did not come until a third call was placed by the woman's son, who lives out of state.
The woman in that case, said Fieger, lived but is paralyzed. He said the second case "indicates to the city that they have a problem that needs to be addressed."
I have got a MAJOR issue with this whole story now that it has stewed a little. The operators at 911 have an OBLIGATION to respond to EACH AND EVERY CALL THEY GET, regardless if they think its fake or not. That is such utter bullsh*t. Seriously, we trust these people with our lives. They work FOR us, however, we pay their salories!! They have no grounds whatsoever to turn away callers. I dont care if its a kid calling, since when does a 5 year old make a prank call?!!
If this is happening more than a few isolated incidents the whole system needs to be taken apart, people arrested, and restructured. She shouldnt be fired, she should sent to jail for a long time, cause she caused a death.
