Wait the news didn't tell me if they suspect terrorism because we all know we have to hear if the authorities suspect terrorists for every car accident and especially anything that happens in NYC.

Actually, it seems to me as if the .Gov announces "this wasn't terrorism" within an hour of the event occurring.  Over on AR15.com, people were making wagers as to how long it would be before the Department of Fatherland Homeland Security made such an announcement.  For this event, it was 70 minutes.

Now tell me, how the heck does DHS know whether or not this was a terrorist event only an hour after the collapse?  DHS should keep their mouth shut until a group of engineers can shed some light on what caused the catastrophe.

well no explosions usually means no terrorists, they had on the news loud groans of the I beams bending or twisting right before it fell.  This to me says they just put too much weight on the wrong parts of the bridge during construction.  I would have announced it wasn't terrorists within 5 minutes with that and be 99% sure I was right.

No but seriously when I see engineers in school cutting corners and barely passing I start fearing for my life when going in buildings, over bridges, etc.

The first reports said that a jack hammer was shaking the bridge.  I think they must have done something really bad if you can feel a jackhammer on that size of a bridge.

Most engineers do good work, because their drawings/building plans have to go through a PE before they even go out to a construction company.  Most all buildings/bridges that fail do so because of the construction not being to spec, not the plans.  Unlike the Tacoma Narrows, putting a light, thin bridge in a high wind area...thats just stupid.  As far as the jackhammer shaking the bridge, yes thats what a jackhammer does, that is its job.  And if a jackhammer took the whole bridge down, then it probaly needed to be completely rebuilt anyway.

no they took teslas earthquake machine and pounded a little hammer thing on an abandoned steel bridge till it was tuned to the bridge... it shook bottled water a hundred feet away. hehe they were creeped out. It obviously didnt create an earthquake but they got the structure to vibrate a bit with just a tiny little hammer dealie.

Well, this definitely qualifies as "random stupidity."



Three men were arrested today in New York Harbor after attempting to disembark in a homemade submarine of some sort.  The .Gov has already calmed our fears by announcing it was not linked to terrorism.

No, but it is illegal to embark on a water vehicle that isn't seaworthy.  It's also illegal to come within a specified distance of other boats over a certain size, such as the Queen Mary II.

I've read that both men have been ticketed and released, and their sub has been impounded.
