Why, because GTA V won't be out on PC until long after the rest of the world has forgotten about it?  It sucks, but Rockstar's PC ports generally blow anyway.

http://www.incgamers.com/2013/09/seriously-though-likely-gta-v-pc

Quote:
This means that the difference in release between the console and PC versions was as follows…

GTA3 – 210 days (6 months, 28 days)
GTA:VC – 197 days (6 months, 15 days)
GTA:SA – 224 days (7 months, 12 days)
GTA4 – 217 days (7 months, 3 days)

Anyway: applying maths this means that the average difference in release date works out to, ooh, 212 days. If we now apply more maths and add that average to the console release of 17 Sep 2013, we get… 17 Apr 2014. Which is a Thursday, so let’s move that to a Tuesday and guess at either 15 or 22 Apr 2014.

I don't know why people complain about GTA 4 so much on pc. It ran fine, it looked great. The games for windows live bs and the rockstar account stuff sucked but at least we had the game.

LOLWUT.  Did you even play GTA IV on/near launch on PC?  It ran atrociously on even the best gaming PCs of the day.  My last PC was about a year old when GTA IV came out and it was an unplayable mess.  Ridiculously long load times and horrendous frame rates, despite not looking all that great.  The PC gaming community was virtually unanimous in their disdain for the craptastic port of GTA IV.  Check out the Metacritic user scores for the PC port versus the XBox 360 and PS3 releases.

Also, the Games for Windows Live and Rockstar Social Club crap can't merely be overlooked.  I had to activate my game twice after buying it on Steam, "just to be sure" it was a legal copy.  Neither GFWL or Social Club brought any value of any kind to my gaming experience.  At least the Ubisoft platform provides crappy wallpapers when I unlock achievements...

Ah, I don't think I played anywhere near launch. Well that sucks. I agree that GFWL and social club added absolutely nothing to the experience but rage.

Forgot to post this last week.  Here's the five minute opening cinematic for Final Fantasy XIII.  No subtitles, so you're on your own figuring this one out:

Haha, fake as hell but still great.

Besides, it's not like we are asking for a new Half Life every year, maybe just once a freaking decade yea? lol

Also the new Steam stuff announced this week is hardly "groundbreaking"

Yeah, I have to admit I'm not completely sold.  I definitely want to give it a try, but I'll believe it when I see it.  If the SteamBox can handle streaming video as well as video games, it has a definitely place in my living room, but I'm not so sure it will "revolutionize gaming" by any means.

That said, I'd love to be wrong.  I'd very much like to see the concept of closed-box consoles die and be replaced by an open, standards-based gaming environment that seamlessly integrates PC gaming, "TV" gaming, mobile, etc. into a single ecosphere.  I personally don't look forward to buying three different consoles over the course of a generation, and the idea of "console exclusives" really needs to go away.  Moreover, I would much rather know that virtually any game is going to work on my system without worrying which console has the best port.

OK, it's just a game, and I can't fault anybody for having personal preferences.  That said, I don't think anyone can deny the impact either Half-Life or Half-Life 2 (and the two episodes, to a lesser degree) had on the gaming industry.  Half-Life introduced complex story lines, environmental puzzles, and beautiful set pieces to the FPS genre.  These things seem absolutely passé now, but they were revolutionary in 1998.

Half-Life 2 was just as revolutionary.  It introduced rag-doll physics into the shooter genre and dramatically raised the bar for animation, graphics, environmental sound effects, artificial intelligence, you name it.  Again, it pushed the envelope forward in terms of an immersive story.  There is a reason it has sold 12 million copies.

You also have to keep in mind the games and technologies that are a direct result of Half-Life.  Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, the entire Steam ecosystem, etc. are all a direct result of the success of the Half-Life franchise.

Greenman Games is giving away a copy of Mafia II or Civ 5, assuming you don't already have them:
