***Caution!!! You are entering a rant zone!  Mind your exits***

I do not support technology that even the head director of NASA said was a waste of time and money.  On top of that, I can no longer support NASA in its failure to break free of the government control that they have (just like the post office) and not seek privatization or private funding to actually propel man further into the science and advancement of our destiny.

Proof needed?  IT'S FRACKIN' SPACE!  How can we have particle accelerators, volcanologists, oceanographers, and everything else to advance man forward in his knowledge of his surroundings but look up at the night sky and say "Ah, F**k it!"

There are more important things to focus on?  How about all the tech that comes from just trying to go up 16 miles outside our small planet? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA_spinoff).

Stop letting the President direct what will happen.  Oh, we're going to land on a comet/asteroid next?  Who cares?!  Yep, that thing we have crash into the Earth daily and have a ton of examples, or that thing we know is made up of ice?  Yep, good money spent.  Should we go back to the moon where scientists are trying to look through pieces of glass to determine if there's water at the poles?  Hey, I've got an idea!  LET'S GO BACK THERE!  We put a fricken flag on an entire celestial body...let's go get it back if we're not going to use it.

What are all these things on Mars?  Could man/someone have been there, was the enviroment just like ours, did something wipe out Mars completely (http://www.astrobio.net/pressrelease/2630/mars-flash-flood)? ; I don't know...but let's go find out!

But it will cost too much money to develop the technology and to go there!  Slap a McDonald's arch on the side of the rocket and you've just made McDonald's even more famous and a bunch of money!

Yes, this is a rant for the sake of a rant, but I think you guys know me, and you know how much I like my space.  It's cool, and anyone you thinks space is not cool are the same people who complain that flying in a plane is annoying.  YOU'RE FLYING THROUGH THE AIR!!!  Don't you understand how awesome that is?!  If you did that 300 years ago, you'd probably be worship as a god!  These people need to be thrown into a volcano and then trampled by hippos!

/End of rant.

I'll have to take a pass.  I was in Orlando a couple weeks ago and I'm flying to Tampa in two weeks, so I think I've had my fill of Florida for awhile.   Tongue

This stretches the bounds of randomness, even for a thread called Random Stupidity, but this is one of the neatest technological gadgets I've seen in awhile.  May I present SWITL...

Also, here's a free copy of the audiobook version of "Go the F*** to Sleep", as narrated by Samuel L. Jackson:

If you guys are online right now, there's a hostage situation in Grand Rapids.  Seven have been confirmed dead and the suspect is holed up in a house.

Here's a live police scanner feed:

This live stream has a lower delay.  It's about a minute ahead of the RadioReference stream.

The world's first "flying car" received clearance to fly a year ago, and now has clearance to drive too!  The Terragugia Transition was certified as roadworthy this week.

Quote:
A Maltese company has filed a lawsuit against Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to seek legal redress in the British courts, impounding the ‘Steve Irwin’ which was scheduled to launch a new operation off the Faroe Islands.

Just as they were about to depart Lerwick in the Shetland Islands to launch the Operation Ferocious Isles campaign against the illegal slaughter of pilot whales, two court officials from Aberdeen arrived at the Sea Shepherd ship Steve Irwin.

The officials served Sea Shepherd with a detainment notice because Fish & Fish, a Maltese fishing company, filed a civil suit in the British Court alleging that Sea Shepherd damaged property they claim to own.

Fish & Fish are specifically referring to an estimated €1 million in damages they allege was done to bluefin tuna fishing gear by Sea Shepherd in the Mediterranean last year when the 'Steve Irwin' rammed their tuna pen on the high seas.

Sweet, sweet justice!  I hope a Japanese whaling company buys the ship and turns it into a harpoon vessel!

Don't you just hate those 212° days?

Something makes me think the author of this article is confusing Fahrenheit and Celsius.

The manliest man in the world:

Quote:
Wildlife Officials Say Ride Dangerous

BOSTON –– A local man is raising eyebrows of wildlife officials after he recently jumped on a shark from a boat off the Cape Cod coast.

I'm not sure what he was smoking, but I hope he's not sharing.
