I received some free Steam coupons for the the Dead Island: Epidemic beta.  I sent a copy to each of you guys.  Let me know if they don't pop up through Steam!

Also, according to a leak, the Steam Summer Sale will apparently start on Thursday, June 19th.

Mere and I have been playing Plague, Inc. lately.  If you guys are familiar with the board game Pandemic, it is effectively the exact opposite.  You play the part of a biological threat to humanity (virus, fungus, bacteria, etc.) and you get to choose where the plague starts and how it evolves.  You earn DNA points by infecting new countries and larger groups of people, and you can spend those points to add new transmission vectors, change the impact of the plague on various bodily functions, add new antibiotic resistances, etc.

It's a simple game but oddly addicting.  When you beat the game with a given type of plague (e.g. bacteria), you unlock new types that are increasingly difficult to control but are more powerful than their predecessors.  You also unlock genetic traits that can be applied to the plague before you start, giving abilities such as increased transmission rates over land or in hotter climates.

Best of all, you can name your plague.  You can probably guess which name I went with...

I'm sure you guys are all familiar with the Steam trading cards, right?  You play a game and randomly receive a handful of trading cards for that game, and if you collect them all you get a shiny badge.  You can get the same badge multiple times to increase it's "level."

With the Steam summer sale, you get a special summer sale card for every $10 you spend.  Alternately, you can buy them for about $0.20 on the marketplace, or trade with friends to get the cards you don't have.  If you collect ten separate cards, you can get a spiffy summer sale badge.

Well, this crazy bastard with the Steam name of PalmDesert has a level 2500 summer sale badge, meaning he collected 25,000 cards.  Assuming he bought the vast, vast majority of them on the marketplace at $0.20 each, he has spent a whopping $5,000 for the honor.

Good news, we're getting a Firefly video game!

Great news, it will have at least some of the original cast returning to do voice work!

Bad news, it's an MMO!

Horrible news, it looks like crap!

Free games!  I have one Steam key left over from the current Humble Bundle for each of the following games:

  • One Way Heroics
  • Ys Origin (Which is a great game, by the way)
  • Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae

If you want them, let me know and I'll generate the keys!

If no one else really wants them bad I'd grab Ys Origin and Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae!
