I saw this in RealD 3D at Cinemark (think IMAX).  Movie is pretty amazing.  While you need to suspend your knowledge of physics on occasion it stays pretty realistic and intense the whole movie.

Prepare your wallets, guys!  Rumor has it that Steam will be running a Thanksgiving sale next week, and we all know the winter sale will hit in about a month!

WinAmp is finally dead.   Sad

The last version ever, 5.66, was released today.  WinAmp is officially shutting down on December 20th.

I still have a crazy old version of WinAmp on the file server that has that file on it.  Here it is, for your listening pleasure!

A super, super critical flaw has been found in the OpenSSL suite.  Roughly 65% of web servers use OpenSSL to provide secure HTTPS connectivity.  Banks, retailers, and even Steam deploy the OpenSSL suite.

I won't bore you with details, but a flaw called Heartbleed has been discovered that could potentially allow an attacker to recover the private key used to encrypt a point-to-point session.  In short, this means an attacker could possibly decrypt traffic between you and a site deploying OpenSSL, or even impersonate you when interacting with the site.

I'd recommend minimizing your interaction with sites containing critical information for 24-48 hours to allow sites to deploy the new OpenSSL patch.  Every IT shop on the planet is going to be working furiously to get this deployed, but pushing a patch this large into production might take some time.

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I just saw a quick blurb on this.  Kind of defeats the purpose of having the "S" in "HTTPS"

Yeah, it's pretty scary.  The bug allows an attacker to dump random parts of the server's memory, so absolutely everything is fair game.  Source code, passwords, administrative data, user details, the whole nine yards.  It's pretty scary.

Following a big announcement about the discovery of hundreds of planets by the Kepler spacecraft, NASA has nearly quadrupled the previous record for annual discoveries of new planets.  In the chart, the green bars indicate discoveries made through methods not involving Kepler.  The red bars indicate previous discoveries by Kepler, and the yellow bar indicates the discoveries discussed in the recent announcement.
