In case you guys haven't heard all the hubbub, a James Franco/Seth Rogen comedy called The Interview has been causing quite a stir.  It features the comedic assassination of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un.  In the past couple weeks, Sony was hacked for the millionth time by supposed North Korean affiliates and a bunch of data leaked.  Today, a bunch of theater chains backed out of showing The Interview following bomb threats, and Sony had to capitulate and just kill the movie altogether.

I doubt this will last long on YouTube, but here's the assassination scene that's got North Korea up in arms.

So If you didn't hear.  Red Eagle Entertainment (in a legal bid to not lose the rights) stealth aired a pilot episode of The Wheel of Time called Winter's Dragon at 1:30 in the morning on FXX the other week.  The video is above.

Now I know it was clearly not designed to be aired on TV and I get why they did it, but good god they did a terrible, lazy job.  I mean Ilyena Sunhair, whom they fucking refer to as Sunhair in the episode, has DARK BROWN hair....and that is just the tip of the iceberg, the acting was terrible, the visuals looked like something from Babylon 5 and and and....

Yea..... This upset me. They kept changing pronunciation at random times. They accentuated all the wrong words in the lines (at least how I imagined it) and well... it was just bad. no epic sets, no wielding of the one power, it should have ended with the forming of dragonmount.

I mean... it was obviously just a bid to keep their rights. so whatever. I doubt I'll ever see that book series on TV. I wish I would have known about this, I would have done their VFX for free haha... ugh.

I don't know why companies do this.  You can still lease out rights to a company that will make it and ask for a piece of the pie.  Happens all the time.

Now I liked the Amazing Spider-Man movies but Sony sat on it for too long and what they're doing now is the smartest thing they could do finally.  Lease it out to Marvel movies that is making a bajillion dollars and get a piece of the action.
